Here at The Little Rose Shop, we love Mary! The Catholic Church, sharing our same sentiment, observes the Holy Day of Obligation honoring Mary and her Immaculate Conception.
But what is the Immaculate Conception? Sadly, there is a great misconception, pun intended, that this is when the Angel Gabriel came to Mary. It is not! The angle appearing to Mary is the Annunciation while the Immaculate Conception goes back to when Mary herself was conceived without sin.
Mary’s parents, historically know as Sts. Anne and Joachim, were devout Jewish laity who loved and served the Lord our God. They prayed fervently for a child. Their prayers were answered when God gave them a child, Mary, who was conceived without sin.
So, the feast of the Immaculate Conception is the beautiful celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s conception and the start of her role in salvation history.
Celebrate this feast day by heading to Mass( it is a Holy Day of Obligation), explaining that it is about St. Anne being pregnant with Mary, and adding in a few fun things like an all white supper representing Mary being conceived without sin, or saying a special prayer for all expectant mothers.
