Lenten Ideas for the Exhausted Parent

God is asking us to give only what you have and He will multiply it.

Pray:

  • Habit stack prayer with your morning cup of coffee

    • Ex. Morning offering, surrender prayer, Hail Mary, Our Father etc

  • Pray for your child as you do their laundry

  • In moments of overwhelm, commit to running into your closet or bathroom and take a moment to simply say “Lord, be a parent to me, so I can parent my child”

  • Consider setting prayer alarms on your phone

Fast:

  • fast from self criticism- each time you catch yourself being harsh with yourself, say Jesus you love me in this moment"
  • Fast from shaming yourself about your parenting- When guilt creeps in, remind yourself “God chose me to be my child’s parent for a reason."
  • Fast from comparison- unfollow or mute social accounts that make you feel like you are not enough

Give

  • Give your full undivided attention to your child for just 15 minutes

  • Give your trust to God that he will provide for your children what you lack

  • Give your time to connect with other catholic families

    • Host a playdate

    • Start a group chat to check in on friends

  • Give yourself grace and compassion

Remember, God doesn’t ask for more than you can give. He simply asks for what you have, Just like the loaves and the fishes, he takes our small offerings and multiplies them.

Your simple prayers, little sacrifices, and quiet acts of surrender are enough. Give him your exhaustion, your distractions, your everyday moments and He will provide the grace.
